Belgium 2026

Posted on: 04/06/2026

Students and staff in the Food Technology Department started the Belgium 2026 trip off strong, loading onto the coach at The Matthew Arnold School at 12.30am and heading to Dover for an early Ferry crossing. Once in Calais, they completed the next leg of the journey to Brussels. On arrival, students learnt about chocolate, watched a praline demonstration at Choco Story, and tried lots of different chocolates! They had an early night, ready for a full day of adventures for day two.

Day two started with a waffle making workshop. Students enjoyed watching a demonstration and then made waffles with many different toppings, including Nutella, Biscoff, icing sugar, bananas, and strawberries, to name a few. After the waffles, they rolled to a more intensive chocolate making demonstration. Here, students learned more about the cocoa process and tried chocolate at every stage. Everyone made their way back to the town centre for a shopping fix before visiting the Frites Museum. Students ended the tour of the interactive museum with some traditionally prepared frites and lots of different sauces! Day two ended with a couple of games of bowling – with some interesting bowling techniques shown by some of the groups.

Early the next morning, some students visited the City Hall of Brussels and the local flea market before everyone set off on the long trip back to school. Belgium 2026 was a fantastic trip with so many opportunities to learn about Belgian cuisine, and we cannot wait for the next one!
