Homework
At The Matthew Arnold School, homework is designed to support and enhance learning beyond the classroom. Effective homework helps to:
- Reinforce learning from lessons
- Develop effective study habits and time management skills
- Foster independent learning
- Enable students to take greater responsibility for their own learning and progress
Homework is carefully planned to ensure it is purposeful, manageable and supports long-term academic success.
Key Stage 3 students can expect homework tasks to take approximately 30 minutes per subject. These activities will focus on recall, retrieval practice and reinforcing learning from lessons.
Key Stage 4 students can expect homework tasks to take approximately 45 to 60 minutes per subject. Work will be more focused on examination preparation, exam-style questions, revision and coursework where appropriate.
By engaging fully with homework, students strengthen their understanding of key concepts, develop valuable study skills and build the independence needed to succeed throughout their education and beyond.
