Our Art, Craft and Design (Textiles) GCSE offers students the opportunity to work with a broad range of materials and skills such alongside creative art skills. Embroidery, sewing machine, fabric dyeing, printing, pattern cutting, embellishing and construction are just some of the skills that students will use in this very practical, experimental and problem-solving based course.
With local community links to Shepperton Studios as well as our own strong links to the school Drama department, the textiles course is very career driven with a strong focus on costume design, prop design and installation art. Armour, Woodlands Interior Design, Enchanted Forest, Creature Costume Design are just some of the themes that students have enjoyed studying.
Students have the opportunity to attend a weekly textiles club in year 7 and year 8 where they will learn basic textiles skills such as embroidery, basic sewing machine skills, embellishment and printing. We strongly advise that this is something that students participate in before opting for GCSE textiles.
