Ross Hurst Gets a Bronze

On the 20th October 2018 Ross Hurst competed as part of a team in the South of England Cross Country Championships in Wormwood Scrubs. Ross represented Walton Athletics Club and ran the second leg in the three man cross country relay team. A selection of the best teams in the whole of the South of England had assembled for this championship. When the first leg runner handed over to Ross, the team was in fourth place and nearly 100m behind the leading pack. In Ross’s leg of the race he managed to close the gap between him and the leading pack, eventually only being a few paces behind the race leader and therefore putting the team firmly in yards of medal contention. The third leg runner managed to hold on to third place in a thrilling finish and secured a bronze medal for the team. This was a fantastic performance and was Ross’s first major medal in an elite level competition.
