Delight at GCSE results

Coming hard on the heels of the long-awaited ‘good’ judgement in June, the GCSE results at The Matthew Arnold School were the best ever for the third year in a row. Students celebrated record results in English and maths, with more students than ever achieving the ‘crossover’ at all levels, including the very highest.  The percentage of students gaining a grade in English and maths from 9-5 was 48%, which is an unprecedented rise of 11% on last year. The same measure for 9-4 rose to 65%, again an improvement on last year. The figures for 9-4 grades in English and maths were 81% and 70% respectively - another significant rise. Our progress 8 measure was positive and again, an improvment on results in 2017.

Our highest-achieving girl and boy were Holly Winters, who gained seven grade 9s and 2 grade 8s, and Chirayu Khatri, who achieved eight grade 9s and two grade 8s.   Record progress was made by Yasmin Ghachem and Dylan Harvey. Huge congratulations to them, and indeed to all our students for their effort, dedication and true MA school spirit. Future destinations include King's College, Tiffin Boys, Salesian Sixth Form, Strode's and Brooklands. We wish them all every success.
