Youth Speaks District Final

On Saturday the Intermediate Youth Speaks Team took part in the District Final of the formal Rotary Club competition. The members of the team were: Lily Blakemore as Chairperson, Anoushka Vail as Main Speaker and Neve Crossley as Proposer of the Vote of Thanks.

They competed against four other schools from across the district speaking on the topic 'Shame on you', which is about skinny shaming. They were the second team to speak and had to wait another nerve-racking three hours for the result to be announced. It was all worthwhile as Anoushka won best Speaker, then Neve won best Proposer of the Vote of Thanks and Lily was runner up as the Chairperson! Finally it was announced that we had indeed made Matthew Arnold history in the competition and won the District Final!

We could not be more proud of the three year 9 students. Their speech was the best it has ever been and it showed, as all our supporters from Shepperton Aurora Rotary Club also mentioned this.

The Youth Speaks Team will now progress to the Regional Final - date to be announced.
