Careers Overview

Working together to help protect our students! (50 × 10 cm)

Intent

The aim of our careers programme is to prepare our students for the next steps in their careers. We have developed a structured careers programme for all students in Year 7 to 11. During their five years students will be equipped with the skills and qualifications needed to reach their full potential, and enable them to achieve a fulfilling and happy career.

Our strong relationships with local further education providers and access to local employers enable students to plan their next steps. We also work in partnership with Innervate Career Services, an outside agency. They provide one-to-one impartial careers guidance interviews to Year 10 and 11 students.

How we implement our careers programme across each year:

The schools careers scheme of work starts in Year 7 continues throughout their time at the school. Each year group will focus on a different area of the curriculum to ensure that they are prepared for the next stages in their careers.

Implementation of careers guidance

The Matthew Arnold school is working with Innervate Careers Service. They support parent information evenings as well as 1:1 career advice. Work experience is also offered to some students to expand their ideas and give them the opportunity to experience a place of work.

How we measure the impact of our careers programme:

Careers education is monitored and evaluated annually, including through discussion with key staff and students and appropriate observation of activities by the CEG Line Manager and governors. The programme is reviewed annually by the careers leader. When reviewing the programme, the School Development Plan (SDP) is used to ensure that the careers curriculum is fully supporting whole school aims.
